Anthony D’Avanzo – Engineer & Sound Designer
The Don of operations at Backroom. Anything you need from sound engineering to mixing and mastering, FOH live sound or just an awesome guitar lick, Anthony’s got you. He started it all 25 years ago and still keeps us running strong.
Joe D’Avanzo – Producer & Composer
Joe’s life is music. It’s all he’s ever done and all he wants to do. Producer, composer, songwriter, vocal coach, singer and front man, Joe can help get you where you need to go. He’s also been heavily involved in giving back to the community through creating and staging kids summer camp programs.
Andrea (Ducky) Barber- Studio Manager
Andrea (aka ‘Ducky). To get to us you have to go through her. She’s spent 15 years handling key affairs at renowned music venues like The Orbit room and Top of the Senator. Her sensibility for musicians and their needs is outstanding. This coupled with her efficient reputation makes us proud to have her on board as studio manager.
Mike Borkovsky – Producer & Composer
As a seasoned musician fluent on many instruments he brings a unique multiple perspective to any project. He goes beyond that of a producer or engineer. He’s at the first rehearsal right down to the last mastering session and brings out the best of the artist because of it. He’s been the go to guy for some of Canada’s best artists: Alannah Myles, Sass Jordan, illScarlett and a ton of others.

Michael McArthur – Sound Designer & Music Producer
Michael is a third culture kid, musician, interaction designer, information architect, interactive art director & front-end developer designer. You’ve probably heard about the Towit app. He’s behind that too! His music has appeared on releases by Here’s My Card Records, Bitkins Electronic Music, Anal0g.org, Peace Off Records and others. It’s also been used in advertisements for Samsung, Yahoo, and Mitsubishi.
Mike Curran – Artist in Residence
Michael is a Visual Artist who brings a sense of humor to the collective, and also over 3 decades of experience working with a wide range of Media and Process. A painter, sculptor and photographer, he has created Video Back Drops, Stage Design & Production as well as album cover art for some of Canada’s biggest acts. Past clients include Rush, Big Wreck and Steven Page amongst others. Mike’s international corporate portfolio includes the 2008 Venice Biennale, the 2010 Olympics and the 2000 Euro Cup, as well as various Museums and Guerrilla advertising projects for Nike. Aside from the design & production of visuals, Mikes key role here is as a creative mentor to our younger artist’s
Jeanette Trigiani Diehl – Producer & Director
Jeanette, our magnet. Whatever the project, she can pull it together. Her knowledge is vast and her experience list is even longer. So basically, 25 plus years in the TV industry = Sex with Sunny Megatron (Showtime U.S./TMN), Million Dollar Neighbourhood (OWN ), Love it or list it (W Network/ HGTV U.S.), Canada AM (CTV), The Main (Food Network), Street Eats (SunTv) and the list goes on. Need we say more?
Maya Bastian – Director & Producer
She’s the point gal for our video department. Whether it’s a corporate, web, or music video you need, she can make it happen. As an award winning film maker, her skills span a variety of formats from documentary to narrative fiction to video for live events. Maya has worked as a director for hire with Shomerde.com to document live events and concerts. She’s directed commercials for Parishil CoLab and also wrote and directed a music video for rock and roll songstress Saidah Baba Talibah.
Brian Faraldo – Director & Editor
Brian has 15 years in video production, he’s the one man gang of the collective. He’s a pro editor but also shoots, and directs. He’s worked exclusively with The Score Television Network/Roger’s Sportsnet in branding their feel for the 18-35 demographic. He’s got over 1000 promos and featured items. He’s highly motivated and can keep your budget in order too.
Craig Rowe – Sound Designer & Music Producer
Craig is an award-winning copywriter from Toronto, Canada with over nine years agency experience working on some of the nation’s biggest brands. He began his career with a strong focus on digital and a love for all things interactive. But not only is he a highly visual writer and strategic, conceptual thinker, he’s also a passionate music producer, songwriter, collaborator and music collector. Over the years his music has appeared in marketing and advertising for such clients as Mitsubishi Canada and Sirius Satellite Radio.
Gerrit Van Dyke – Senior Editor
Gerrit spent the past ten years working as a video editor in the advertising industry in Toronto, editing major commercial productions and award winning work for some of the biggest brands in Canada. In that time, he also honed many other skills including graphic design and videography. His passion has always been for this business, and he takes a great amount of pride in every project he takes on – no matter what the budget is.
Elena Sarasom – Producer & Director
Elena brings a fierce global perspective, unique pedigree and DIY mentality to the table. Combining her abstract perspective and resourcefulness, she has been known to pull rabbits out of hats and produce astonishing results within respective parameters. Recently returning from New York to Toronto, Elena is a native of the former USSR who has lived in Israel, Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, and has travelled to South America in pursuit of her raw vegan chef certification. With a background in journalism, she throws questions like ninja stars that give her work the recognizable ‘money shot’ answer in interview videos that have put her company Vanguard Creative Media on the map. Elena has worked both on camera as an arts and culture reporter, and off camera as shooter, editor, producer and director. With a flair and passion for design and a finely tuned radar for contemporary culture and art, she is not only able to find the ‘magic nugget’ of a company or person’s story, but packages it in a visually striking cinematic production.
Jesse Blight – Director of Photography
Driven by an intense fervor for the moving image and for creative collaboration, Jesse believes in re-defining the photographic mediums through an ever-expanding understanding of new technology fused with the patience and discipline required for celluloid. As an award-winning Director of Photography, his work as both a cinematographer and photographer has taken him to countries including China, Haiti, and Cambodia, and his portfolio includes a multitude of genres including documentary, drama, music videos, and corporate creative.
Having graduated from York University’s Film & Video Production Program, he readily embraces any opportunity to collaborate with new directors on any medium expressed through the lens. Recent clients have included International Child Care (Haiti), Crucible Pictures, Brandora Ltd., Zebra Studios, Skate Canada, Right To Play, Red Bull, the Hearing Source, Jacob Moon, AMD Graphics Products, CFF (Clark, Farb & Fiskel), The Ontario Ministry of Finance, the Toronto District School Board, Ali Matthews, and Crime in Paris.
Travis Hopkins – Motion Graphics
Travis is a multidisciplinary designer and animator with a diverse background in television & commercial production. His broad range of skills stretch from photography to illustration & visual effects, which have lead to him designing award winning commercials, short films, and music videos for many top artist and ad agencies.
